got a nice win yesterday with southern image in the grade 1 malibu @ 13-1. here's my take today; there was a fairly pronounced inside speed bias yesterday- let's hope the track plays fair today. also not sure whether we're off the turf or not, so i'll make picks for the turf races assuming they're staying on the turf course- please alter your picks if the races get switched to the main track.
r5: we all love aleyna. this is obviously a bit of a stab here as dwango, borrego, misty'sgoldentouch and totally platinum all look like they can run run run. i'll make a small play to 'aleyna who gets red tagged by mitchell and has always had enough speed to be dangerous. my second choice is totally platinum, who is by long winded dynaformer- this one should run all day long....
r7: buffythecenterfold. i think we can beat elloluv- she strikes me as a horse who is much better around two turns because she can relax a lot more. this one-turn grade 1 7 furlong dash really favors horses who can rate a bit. i'm backing buffy, who has made a very nice living in graded stakes the lat two years. she likes santa anita and she should get a dream trip sitting off the pace i here. randaroo is also scary as that one is as game as they come and has enough speed not to lose position.
r8: gold sphinx. i've always like this guy- and while he may be better suited at a mile, he should come absolutely flying late if flores can break him alertly and find room at the top of the lane. tikkun is the one to fear- that one beat mineshaft last year and need only get his head on straight (see special ring if you don't believe a head-strong front runner can learn how to rate a bit), to run over this field. if they let tikkun go at a price, i'll play him too.
r9: aimees pride. love to back glatt off the claim and he haltered this one out of a pretty tough 10k claimer. he steps him up one level and i look for aimee to run better in here, even with the class rise.
